RESIDENT DEEJAYS >DAVE ARMSTRONG
"Baby Make Your Move, Step Across The Line!" With just these few words Dave Armstrong has left his mark on house music history. In 2004, you could go to almost any party anywhere on this planet and the chances were good that at the peak of the night, the infectious groove and vocal hook of "Make Your Move" would blast from the speakers. And no matter if you were on a moonlit beach in Ibiza, a warehouse rave in Southern California or an English super-club, the effect would be amazing: a jolt of energy surging on the dance floor, cheers and hands in the air, accompanied by a happy, warm glow on faces of all colors. With "Make Your Move" Dave Armstrong has won a space in the hearts and minds of dance music lovers across the world. He has achieved what each and every music producer dreams of - he has created a classic. But Dave Armstrong did not just pop up, out of nowhere... Dave belongs to the new-school of whiz-kids who tweak and hack their Pentiums and G5s into creating the sounds and rhythms that previous generations of producers could only achieve with a barrage of studio hardware. "You want to see my studio? It's a laptop and a pair of headphones, that's all there is to it these days", Dave explains. "People who want to get into producing email me these huge shopping lists of expensive hardware that they want me to comment on. I always tell them to get a cheap computer, get some cheap software to start - and get going!" Dave is known for not showing that "get in - get the cash - and get out hell out" attitude that, let's be honest, is common behavior for a lot of top DJ/producers these days. Instead, he can frequently be found partying with the clubbers or fans after his sets. He does not claim to be a superstar; he is sincerely there for his fans and loves spending time getting to know them and what they think about him or his productions. It has always been important to Dave to gather this information to use in his future productions. "If you don't take the time to thank your listeners, talk to them, answer their questions or even just sit down and see their reactions when they meet you, I think it's a huge mistake in this business. How else will you find out what your fans think of you personally? I appreciate everything so far and love to give the love back that all these people give to me and my music. This is why I love what I do". Keeping a busy schedule DJing, his frequent flyer bonus has reached staggering proportions. You can find him behind the decks in the South American party mecca of Colombia, at the legendary Club Yellow" in Tokyo and doing 3-gig weekends in France or Germany as well as getting recent residency requests with Eyezcream from cities such as Toronto, Montreal, NYC, Miami and Chicago. How he can fit his remixing and production work in between those gigs remains anyone's guess, but somehow he pulls it off. The result of this is an impressive discography for a list of labels reading like a who's who of the global dance scene. Dave Armstrong has become Canada's new superhero of funk that has been known to shake down parties every time he gets behind the decks. Besides the homegrown stuff on Eyezcream Recordings, Dave also has releases on such prominent labels as Steve Angello's Swedish Label, "Size Records", Ministry of Sound's "Data Records & Hed Kandi", and North American top labels such as "Tommy Boy & Ultra Recordings" amongst many others. Having secured spots on dance music charts around the world as well as hundreds of spins on BBC Radio 1 shows in the UK, with hosts such as Judge Jules, Dave Pearce, Eddie Halliwell, Scott Mills and the infamous Pete Tong, as well as the infamous France dance station RadioFG with almost their whole roster of artists. He is now known for the many chart toppers stemming from the Canadian 'new kids', Eyezcream Recordings. We witnessed "Release the Tension" get the attention of all the majors in the industry. Then "Make Your Move" climbed the charts all over the world to hit 1 on them and earn Dave and the Eyezcream imprint a Gold record. Not slowing down at all, the hit makers then released "Out of Time" (a remake of the Hall & Oates classic, Out of Touch) as well the 2008 Top40 hit around the world called "Love is Gone"; an extremely successful collaboration of Dave and Eyezcream label co-owner, DJ/producer, Redroche including vocalist H-Boogie (little sister to the popular UK singer Estelle) on Ministry of Sound and Hed Kandi labels. In 2008, Dave Armstrong showed the dance music industry why he is one of the most-sought after remixers at the moment, completing a slew of high profile remixes of some of the biggest names in the industry. Expect more gigs, new remixes and new some of the most incredible original material in 2009, as Dave's passion for music and production skills has matured and seems to be in full bloom. From filtered twisted disco to a range of the most pumpin' house sounds ever laid down for a dance floor, Ladies and Gents, get ready for some funky luvin' from the one and only, a true house superstar, Dave Armstrong. |
